Since 1952, the Swedish Cooperative Company Arla has delivered its dairy products to Germany. In 2000, Arla Foods was established through a fusion with Arla's Danish equivalent, MD Foods. This fusion made Arla Foods the world's first cross-border dairy cooperative. The decision to consolidate with Hansa Milch eG in 2011 put Arla Foods in the position to welcome German dairy farmers for the first time and to extend the portfolio in Germany by many fresh produce such as yoghurt and quark. The merger with Allgäuland-Käsereien in the same year also allows Arla Foods to provide excellent genuine specialty cheeses from Allgäu. Arla Foods is a cooperative and is wholly-owned by the same farmers who produce the milk. This means, that Arla Foods knows everything about the milk, every step of the way - from production through further processing to packaging. Arla Foods' range includes fresh and long-life milk, cream and hard cheeses, yoghurt and blended spreads. All dairy products are made from natural ingredients. With 12.800 owners and 19.600 employees, Arla Food ranks among the largest dairy cooperatives worldwide.
