The Flechtorfer Muehle located on the river Schunter is mentioned in documents dating back to the 13th century. In the decades after the Second World War, the mill was developed in numerous stages to a powerful efficient and modern facility. With the acquisition of the Muehle Goeddenstedt near Rosche in 1992, the company received new momentum. Since 2000, miller master Walter Thoenebe, his son Matthias and managing director Rolf Klein manage the Flechtorfer Muehle Walter Thoenebe GmbH along with an experienced and highly qualified team. The company has now been in the possession of the Thoenebe Family for three generations.
Both mills are situated in good grain growing areas for normal and high quality grain. The favourable location in relation to grain raw materials assisted the successful development of Flechtorfer Muehle. The mill belongs to the large, but still middle-class structured, private mills in Germany.
Since Aug 1, 2007, Avena Cerialien GmbH also belongs to the Flechtorfer Muehle Group. In the Brandenburger city of Karstaedt high quality flake products have been produced since 1949. With the highest quality raw materials and the most modern production machinery Avena is able to guarantee the best quality.
The mill was completely modernized in 2008/9. A new raw material silo was built together with a new production site. New production lines and packing facilities were installed. In summer 2009, Avena Cerealien GmbH was the most modern mill in Germany.
