Traditional German white wine made out of grapes from Rheinhessen. Its bouquet is reminiscent of peaches, apricots and cherry blossoms. Its fine sweetness makes this wine enjoyable, pleasing and mouth-filling.
Carefully selected traditional grape varieties of the Rheinhessen growing-region were merged into a well-balanced composition.
Weinhaus Gebrüder Steffen, Trittenheim
The winery of the Steffen family in Trittenheim was founded in 1794. Trittenheim is an ancient wine-growing district in the famous Mosel valley. Today the father, Hans Steffen, and his son, Roman Steffen, run the renowned winery, which is famous throughout the world for its outstanding Riesling wines from the steep slate slopes of the Mosel.
In Germany, wine is grown on more than 100.000 hectare, whereby table grapes do not play a role. As Germany is among the most northern and hence climatically coldest growing countries of the world, the grapes develop particularly elegant and manifold aromas. Each vintage shows new discoveries and a unique character. Germany’s best vineyard slopes are situated on steep, sun-kissed slopes of river valleys, as to be found at the Moselle region.
The origins of viticulture in Germany date back to the Romans, who brought the art of viniculture to Central Europe 2.000 years ago. In Germany, the Riesling variety is considered a native plant, which grew originally in the alluvial forests along the Rhine’s river banks. Today Germany’s viticulture is characterized by a young generation of very well educated winemakers, who create international premium wines.
With around 26,000 hectares of vineyards, Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest wine-growing region. It is confined by the rivers Nahe and Rhein, flanked by the cities Bingen, Alzey, Worms and Mainz. The name “Rheinhessen“ stems from the former province of the „Grand Duchy of Hessen and Rhein“, which was located on the left bank of the Rhein and existed from 1806 to 1918. Due to the diversity of varietals, climate zones and soil types, a wide range of different wines are growing on the soft rolling hills of the spacious landscape.
