The importance of ”MADE IN GERMANY“ for food products

  • Used for safe, authentic and high-quality German food, which is generally intended to be marketed on non-European target markets
  • Used by food businesses based in Germany
  • Produced / manufactured exclusively in Germany
  • I.e., the creation of the food product, which is the crucial factor for its appreciation (quality, safety, characteristics), takes only place in Germany
  • The producers must demonstrate that raw materials and ingredients are procured regionally of nationally if possible
  • The higher the declared regional reference, the higher the required claims on the origin of the raw materials from Germany
  • The documented German origin and the amount of raw materials, which must come from Germany, is determined by product category (e.g. cocoa beans for chocolate production cannot come from Germany), declaration (e.g. a product can only be declared as German milk if the milk comes exclusively (100%) from German cows), legal basis (e.g. under LIMV, fresh meat must exclusively come from Germany), and excepted public perception of the consumers (implementation of market research for the target markets)
  • Products awarded “Made in Germany“ are proven to have a high product quality (sensory evaluation, analytics)
  • Products awarded “Made in Germany“ are solely produced by companies with verifiably high process quality (audits on-site)
  • The participating companies take account of sustainability issues in their corporate activities and verifiably work towards creating and sustaining employment in Germany
